Well, my attempts to manage stress and rest up while getting back to work on a reduced timetable have taken a hammering this weekend!

Our cat (an enormous 18 month old ginger, Teddy) has been savaged by 2 dogs. My teenaged daughters tried to drag him off them and several neighbours and passers-by tried to help. Katharine managed to get hold of him but they leapt up and pulled him out of her arms. Susie dived straight in and eventually got Teddy and ran to the vets with him, just round the corner.

Susie has 3 bites plus horrible scratches and they are both very shocked and tearful. We were at the hospital most of the afternoon yesterday, along with 2 neighbours up the street who were also bitten. Teddy was in the vets overnight and has lots of injury sites but thankfully none of them serious. We were allowed to have him home as we live so close but he has to go back again today for antibiotic and painkilling jabs and dressings.

As if that wasn't enough, Joel, 19, went to town on Sat. night and didn't come home, didn't answer phone and we couldn't get hold of any of his friends. When he didn't turn up by afternoon, we rang the police who eventually told us 'We know where he is' - nothing more. My mind was in overdrive imagining everything possible. Anyway, after hours of panic, he was allowed home. He had been leaving a club as the police were entering to deal with a fight inside and before he knew it had been cuffed and shoved into a van. This was just after midnight but he wasn't allowed a phone call till 4pm. He was given a sheet with 'simple caution' on it so I assume it is not bad and nothing else will come of it.

I really feel like I have no adrenalin left! Oh, and the vet bill is £192 so far ...

Hi Ailsa

What an absolutely terrible time you have had, it is no wonder you are so terribly stressed and upset. Really hope it doesn t effect your RA too much.

I have a boy of 19 too, they really should have let him phone you and settled your mind, you must have been in a terrible state, thank goodness nothing serious came of it.

Lastly hope Teddy is coming through his ordeal and your daughters ok, and all on the mend. The vets are so expensive, hope it doesn t rise much more for you I ve animals - a costly business.

Hope you feel bit better soon, let us know how things are going.

Julia xx

What a weekend Ailsa!
I agree with Julia, the police should have let your son ring you to say where he was.
Hope the cat and your daughters soon recover from their dreadful ordeal.
Not much chance of a stress free time with teenage children!

Love, Doreen xx

Oh Ailsa. What a nightmare time for you. I agree- the police were wrong to just say that, my goodness I can't begin to think what you must have been imagining.
YES I'VE CHANGED, PAIN DOES THAT TO PEOPLE.

Hello you poor poor thing - stress is not helpful in normal cirucmstances with RA
far less when you had the awful situations.

Chin up

Oh Ailsa - what an absolute nightmare for you all.

Hopefully the puss will pull through - give him a stroke from us. As for the police and Joel - it's disgraceful. They must have known how worried you would be.

Please take care

Much love

The lad is an adult though. There's a possibility he was offered the chance to notify someone and he refused! If that's not the case then maybe he should make a complaint. I agree though, not too good for a worried Mum at home!Sad
A friend is someone who knows all about you but loves you anyway!

Have to agree with Stuart...............Joel is an adult, and unless he was charged with a crime, he does not have the right to make that one call; however, MOST police forces do allow a call if the person is young/living at home, or they will ring on that person's behalf . They do not have to say where that adult person is, just that they know where he is (the implication is "WE know where he is, so he is safe")
It's hard but that's how it is, and of course Joel might have asked them NOT to tell you he'd been arrested. Not knowing is dreadful but these kids often find it harder to let mum know about an arrest ...and don't seem to realise she will be out of her mind with worry!!
Hope its soon sorted out for you all, anyway. L
Always be aware that what you do might hurt others........and if it could, do nothing without careful consideration of the consequences

He was allowed his call at 4pm and rang work! He thought THEY would be worried ... Thanks everyone who was so supportive - there really is nothing quite like that fear.

Teddy is improving - another £32 for jabs and dressing changes on Monday and back again tomorrow. Still no idea whose dogs they are.

Typical bloke!!!! Hubby did a similar thing to me once when he was stranded in snow about 100 miles away.

I'm so sorry to hear about poor Teddy. I hope he makes a full recovery.

Meanwhile- make sure you look after yourself

hugs
